Weather by the Numbers, 7/25/11
* 2 to 4 inches is the estimated rain amount over part of East Mississippi this morning based on radar. NWS, Jackson issued a Flash Flood Warning because an additional 1 to 3 inches was possible. This included the Starkville area. The storms were slow movers.
* 1 is how many people I interviewed live on NOAA Weather radio when I was still in the NWS at 11 West Oxmoor Road. That person has five letters in both his first and last name. He is widely known and he detests Vienna sausage.
* 12.43 inches of rain in the last seven weeks at Chicago-O’Hare Airport. Their surplus for the year is now 12.30 inches! There was significant flash-flooding in Chicagoland over the weekend.
* 104 was the high at the Dallas/Ft. Worth Airport Sunday. It was 98 back on July 1. Since that time, it has been 100 or hotter every single day. Today will be the 25th consecutive day with 100 or hotter. The average low for all of July so far is a very warm 81. They have only received 0.09 rain amount this month.
* 74 is the forecast high in Boston this afternoon. That is what I call real heat relief after several days around 100.
* 107 was the high Sunday in Tulsa and Wichita. Both of those cities, as well as Oklahoma City, have experienced a long string of 100-plus heat.
* 111 was the hottest in the nation Sunday at Guthrie and Stillwater, Oklahoma and at Bullhead City, Arizona. Stillwater is the home of Oklahoma State University and is located about midway between Oklahoma City and Tulsa.
* 36 was the coolest in the lower 48 states this morning at Truckee and Tahoe, California.
* 32.69 inches is the Birmingham rain total so far this year. That is a deficit of only 0.37. All of Alabama is not that lucky and certainly not much of the Southwest and Great Plains. The State of Texas is in the midst of an extreme drought.
* 0 is how many times I have been to New York City. 0 is also how many times I have seen a professional hockey game or a college basketball game.
