WeatherBrains Episode 288 is now online (August 1, 2011). If you are crazy about weather, this is THE netcast audio program for you!

Steve BauerLong time listener Steve Bauer suggested tonights topic, and as is the long time tradition on WeatherBrains, if you suggest it, you own it. So when he wrote in and said we should do a show on the challenges that people with disabilities face in utilizing weather information, we made him the Guest WeatherBrain. Steve Bauer is totally blind. But that doesn’t stop him from being involved in weather. He has been a licensed amateur radio operator (also known as hams) since 1972. His call sign is W0QA. Even before then, he enjoyed listening to spotter networks on amateur radio. For 13 years he did severe weather coverage for a group of broadcast stations, even doing continuous coverage.

Mile Muzio Our second Guest WeatherBrains for this show is Miles Muzio. Miles is the chief meteorologist at KBAK-TV in Bakersfield. He has been working in weather for 37 years. He was a meteorologist for the Air Force for 12 years and got started in television in Anchorage, AK, and did some moonlighting in San Antonio, TX.

Other discussions in this weekly podcast include topics like:

  • Brian back from the YooPee (UP)
  • Heat still a big item
  • Hail in New York City
  • Severe storms in Upper Midwest
  • Lightning struck a girl – adds to JB’s lightning is frightening data
  • and more!
  • Kevin is still trying to pawn off the Email Officer position on some unsuspecting soul! But he still does a good job recapping your emails.

    From The Weather Center:

WeatherBrains 101: Hurricane season 2011 is well underway with the fifth storm of the season having just been named. So we take a look at what is often one of the biggest killers in landfalling hurricanes. And it doesn’t come from the violent wind but does come with the water!
