ANOTHER REFRESHING MORNING: Continental air remains in place this morning with that “fall-like” feel to the air, with lows generally in the 60s, but with 50s for the cooler valleys across Northeast Alabama. Today will be another sunny day with low humidity and a high in the upper 80s.

REST OF THE WEEK: Heat and humidity levels will slowly rise through the rest of the week, with low 90s tomorrow through Friday. I guess we probably need to mention some risk of isolated afternoon showers Thursday and Friday, but anything that forms should be very widely spaced, and most communities will stay dry.

OUR WEEKEND: Not much change. Highs in the low 90s; a partly sunny sky, and a few isolated afternoon showers or thunderstorms. Most of the weekend should be dry and uneventful.

NEXT WEEK: The 00Z GFS hints at a weak front moving through Monday night, followed by drier air Tuesday, but little rain along the front. Upper heights are fairly high, and we will probably roll with a persistence front for the first few days of next week as that front, if it moves through at all, probably won’t bring the type of air we have enjoyed over the past 36 hours.

TROPICS: Tropical Storm Gert remains a non-event… moving over the open water of the Central Atlantic. It will become extra-tropical during the next 36 hours.

The wave over the eastern Caribbean lost it’s convection overnight, so it certainly doesn’t look too threatening now. If it survives and develops, most models take it toward Central America or the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico without bothering the Gulf of Mexico. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. Scroll down for the show notes on this week’s new episode.
