Way too early to be this cool – Updated

The daytime high in BHM yesterday was a chilly 59 degrees.  However, the official high for the day occurred at midnight (1201 am yesterday morning), when it had not cooled off completely yet.  The official high temperature was still only 62, by far the coolest high temperature ever so early in the fall season.  The next coolest was a high of 66 degrees on September 3, 1967, and September 14, 1959.

Previously, the earliest we’ve ever had a high of 62 or lower was on September 24, 1975.

We did have one other very cool labor day weekend 25 years ago, in 1986.  Starting on the Thursday before Labor Day, high temps were 74, 72, 67, 70, and 79.
