HEAT RELIEF ON THE WAY: Today will be much like yesterday, with a decent amount of sunshine and highs in the 88-91 degree range. But, to the north, check out these 5:00 a.m. temperatures…

Now that is a sign of the times… and the leading edge of that refreshing air will move into Alabama tomorrow morning. Ahead of the front, a few showers are possible late tonight or early tomorrow, but rain amounts should be light and spotty; most places will see under 1/4 inch. The main window for showers will come from about midnight tonight through 9:00 a.m. tomorrow.

COOLER DAYS: The high tomorrow will be only in the 75-80 degree range with a fresh north breeze and the sky should become partly sunny by afternoon.

For now, we will keep a dry forecast Friday through Sunday with highs around 80, and lows in the 50s and low 60s. Looks like a great weekend for high school and college football. Still some evidence of CAD (cold air damming) over the weekend, meaning East Alabama should be cooler, and perhaps cloud covered at times, with warmer and brighter weather for the western counties of the state.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: The idea of a cold front passing through here next week with a good round of rain and storms, followed by cooler weather is off the table now, but the GFS is advertising that kind of setup later in the month around September 25. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

TROPICAL UPDATE: Tropical Storm Maria will pass west of Bermuda tomorrow morning, and will then recurve into the North Atlantic well east of the U.S. The rest of the Atlantic basin is pretty quiet for mid-September; look for one more pulse of activity this hurricane season in about 10-20 days from now, but the pattern seems to favor most of the storms to stay over in the Atlantic.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
