WELCOME TO FALL: The equinox this morning was a little after 4:00 Central Time; this is the day with approximately 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness. So long summer.

THIS MORNING: Strong storms producing heavy rain continue early this morning near the Georgia border; those are moving out of the state, but we will maintain some risk of a stray shower in spots during the morning hours as a cold front moves through.

THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH SUNDAY: The sky becomes partly sunny day as dry air moves into the state, and tonight promises to be very pleasant with fair and cool conditions. Most places will be in the mid 50s by daybreak tomorrow; the cooler spots will be closer to 50. Great way to start the weekend.

Expect dry, warm days and fair pleasant nights through the weekend. Lows will be in the 50s, but afternoon highs will be in the low to mid 80s. Dewpoints will be in the 40s tomorrow afternoon, meaning very low humidity. A few scattered clouds will show up Sunday, but the sky will remain mostly sunny.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: We expect a great night for high school football tonight, with a fair sky and temperatures falling from the mid 70s at kickoff into the 60s by the fourth quarter.

Tomorrow, Alabama will host Arkansas at Bryant-Denny Stadium at 2:30; the sky will be mostly sunny with a kickoff temperature near 82 degrees, falling into the 70s by the final whistle. Auburn will host Florida Atlantic at 6:00… the sky will be mostly clear at Jordan-Hare Stadium, with temperatures falling from near 77 at kickoff into the upper 60s by the fourth quarter. UAB will be at East Carolina for a 2:30 p.m. CDT kickoff; the weather in Greenville, NC will be wet with occasional showers and storms likely. Temperatures will be in the 70s during the game.

NEXT WEEK: A weak front could bring a few scattered showers Monday, and possibly Tuesday, but rain amounts should be light and spotty. The rest of the week looks dry, with highs generally in the 80s. See the Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas.
