THIS MORNING: A strong, non-tropical low, is just north of Daytona Beach, Florida this morning, and the easterly flow on the top of the circulation will keep clouds in place over most of Alabama today, along with the risk of scattered light rain through tonight.

I know some are arguing that the low over Florida should be designated a tropical storm since winds are gusting to tropical storm force along parts of the lower Atlantic coast, but it is a cold core system and doesn’t need a name.

More than likely we won’t get past the mid 70s today with a generally cloudy sky and some light rain at times.

MID-WEEK: Not much change tomorrow; clouds will stick around much of the day with a little scattered light rain; the highs will be somewhere between 68 and 72, with the cooler readings over the eastern counties. Then, Wednesday looks brighter and warmer, with a partly sunny sky and a high near 80 degrees.

We will then mention some risk of a shower Thursday, but just an outside risk as a cold front passes through. Otherwise, expect a mix of sun and clouds with a high in the 70s.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: A nice surge of cool, dry air rolls into Alabama Thursday night, setting the stage for some great weekend weather. Look for sunny pleasant days and clear cool nights; the coolest morning should be early Saturday with a low in the mid to upper 40s. Highs will be generally in the 70s.

LONG RANGE: Still no sign of any major heavy rain or severe weather event for the next 15 days as the benign weather pattern continues, which is basically just what we expect in October.

TROPICS: All is quiet across the Atlantic basin with the exception of the non-tropical low near Daytona Beach.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. We will record this week’s episode tonight at 8:30 p.m. CDT.
