Dry Air Arrives Tonight
An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.
COLD FRONT APPROACHING: Showers and thunderstorms remain possible across Alabama today, with rain amounts generally below 1/2 half inch for most locations. Marginal instability values should prevent any storms from getting out of hand, and all of the showers should be out of the state by 9:00 p.m. as the front sweeps to the east.
TOMORROW THROUGH SUNDAY: We are still promising delightful weather on these three days, with sunny comfortable days and clear cool nights. Highs will be in the 70s tomorrow and Saturday, followed by low 80s Sunday. Early morning lows will be in the 47-53 degree range.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: Some teams play tonight; stadiums in West Alabama will be dry, but a shower is possible during the first half of the games across the eastern third of the state. Temperatures tonight will fall through the 60s. Then, tomorrow night, dry air takes over and the sky will be clear with temperatures in the 60s at kickoff, with 50s likely by the fourth quarter.
Saturday, Alabama travels to Oxford to take on the Ole Miss Rebels (5:00 p.m. CDT kickoff). It will be a great evening for football, with a clear sky and a kickoff temperature near 73 degrees, falling into the 60s during the second half. Auburn will host the Florida Gators at Jordan-Hare Stadium at 6:00 p.m. CDT… clear weather is the story with temperatures falling from near 70 at kickoff into the upper 50s by the final whistle. UAB is on the road at Tulsa for a 7:00 p.m. CDT kickoff. The sky will be clear with upper 70s at kickoff, and mid 60s by the fourth quarter.
SHRIMP FESTIVAL: Doesn’t get much better for the big event in Gulf Shores this weekend. Lots of sun Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with highs around 80 and lows in the 60s. See our SKYCAM images and data here.
NEXT WEEK: The weather stays dry Monday, but a cold front will pass through Tuesday with some risk of showers and storms. We do note the 00Z GFS continues to trend much drier with that front, showing just light and spotty rain. Then, much cooler air blows in here Wednesday, perhaps the coolest air so far this season. But, thickness values are not as low on recent runs, suggesting that we might not see widespread front early Thursday. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.
TROPICS: All remains calm across the Atlantic basin and tropical storm formation is not expected through the weekend.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
