FROST ADVISORY: The coldest night of the season so far is ahead for Alabama. With a clear sky and winds going light, look for a big spread based on elevation. The coldest valleys could see a low near 30 degrees, while ridges above 1,500 feet could hold in the 40s all night. We will forecast an average low of 37, and many communities will see their first frost of the season (remember, frost can form with observed temperatures in the mid to upper 30s).

TOMORROW AND THE WEEKEND: Delightful weather is the story, with sunny days, clear chilly nights, and a slow warming trend. We reach the mid 60s tomorrow, upper 60s Saturday, and low 70s Sunday.

RACE WEEKEND: Picture perfect weather for NASCAR fans; tons of sun for Talladega this weekend. The high Saturday will be close to 69, followed by 73 Sunday. The humidity will be low, and winds will be light. Take the sunscreen.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: For high school games across the state tonight and tomorrow night, you will need a jacket.. The sky will be clear both nights, with temperatures falling through the 50s. Some stadiums will be in the 40s by the second half tonight.

Saturday, Alabama hosts the Tennessee Volunteers at Bryant-Denny Stadium with a 6:15 p.m. CDT kickoff. The sky will be clear, with temperatures falling from near 67 at kickoff into the mid 50s by the fourth quarter. Auburn is on the road; the Tigers will take on LSU in Baton Rouge at 2:30 p.m. CDT. The sky will be bright and sunny with 75 degrees at kickoff, then falling into the 60s by the final whistle. UAB hosts UCF this evening at 6:00 p.m. at Legion Field; the sky will be clear at kickoff with the temperature near 68 degrees, falling to near 50 by the end of the game.

NEXT WEEK: Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 12Z GFS is advertising a strong trough/surface front combo on Thursday with a good chance of showers, and maybe even strong to severe thunderstorms, followed by sharply colder air on Friday. Way too early to resolve details, of course.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
