One More Nice Day

SUNNY AND MILD: Pleasant weather continues today across Alabama with ample sunshine and a high in the mid to upper 70s. But, to the west, the weather is active with a snow storm over Colorado, which will move east and drag a cold front in our direction. We note a few showers along the front well to the north, around the Ohio River this morning.
Clouds will increase ahead of the front tomorrow, and we will continue to mention some risk of showers tomorrow afternoon through Friday morning, but rain amounts should be light, and there is no threat of severe weather. I really doubt we hear much thunder with very little instability. The 00Z NAM is printing only 0.06″ for Birmingham, and that sounds about right. The GFS is just as dry.
COOL DOWN FRIDAY: Much cooler air follows the front on Friday… it will be somewhat of a raw day with low clouds, a little light rain during the morning, and a chilly northwest wind. We will struggle to reach the low 60s; some places will hold in the 50s all day. But, the sky will clear Friday night as dry air takes over.
CRISP, CLEAR WEEKEND: Doesn’t get much better. Look for sunny cool days and clear cold nights Friday and Saturday with highs in the 60s and lows in the 30s. Looks like more frost is likely by daybreak Sunday, with a freeze for the colder spots across North and Central Alabama.
NEXT WEEK: The weather stays dry through Wednesday… the 00Z GFS suggests a cold front comes through Thursday with a chance of showers, followed by colder air. No sign of any severe weather issues with that front for now.
RINA: Our hurricane in the Caribbean is just hanging around with little movement; sustained winds remain near 110 mph. The hurricane is expected to move over Cozumel and Cancun late in the week, followed by a sharp right turn over the weekend, moving south of Key West by Sunday night and Monday as a weakening tropical storm. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.
