STORMY MORNING: Most of the significant damage in Alabama today came in three places… the community of Whitfield in southern Sumter County, at Demopolis in Marengo County, and in Auburn in Lee County. Scroll down for damage information from Auburn… NWS survey teams will take a look at all of the damage and we will have storm reports tonight or tomorrow.

RIGHT NOW: The severe weather risk of Alabama is over, except for the southeast corner of our state around Dothan. A strong cold front is lined up at 3:00 from near Jacksonville to Calera and on to Greensboro. There is a huge contrast on either side of this front, with readings near 80 over South Alabama, but only 50s to the north over the northwest counties of the state.

TONIGHT/TOMORROW: The cold air winds the battle, and tomorrow will be a much cooler day with a high only in the mid 50s along with a chilly north wind. But, the colder air is dry, so the sun should return statewide. Friday morning will be cold, and now the GFS and the NAM are printing 31 degrees for Birmingham at daybreak Friday. Colder spots go in the 20s. Friday will be sunny and cool with a high near 60s.

OUR WEEKEND: We warm into the mid 60s Saturday with a partly sunny sky. Sunday promises to be breezy and warmer with a mix of sun and clouds, and some risk of isolated showers due to a big increase in low level moisture. But, widespread rain is not expected.

THANKSGIVING WEEK: The first half of the week looks warm for Alabama, with highs in the mid 70s Monday through Wednesday. There will be sufficient moisture for a few showers on all three of these days, but they should be very widely spaced due to a strong upper ridge easing in here from the south. The 12Z GFS shows a better chance of showers on Wednesday, followed by drier and slightly cooler air on Thanksgiving Day. See the Weather Xtreme video for full details.
