Bad Omen?

In my many years in the National Weather Service, I became accustomed to watching weather events in the Yukon Territory and Northwest Territory of Canada.

Specifically, in winter I used to keep a close check on Dawson and Mayo in NW Canada. I believe that when the temperature got to 60 below zero and the barometric pressure intensified to around 31 inches, that within 7 or 8 days that big cold air mass would bully its way down through the Plains and reach Alabama.

At midday Alabama time, the temperature was 63 below zero at Mayo and 60 below at Dawson. The barometric pressure in both locations was around 30.85 inches.

Should we worry?

That is only a theory that I have. I cannot prove it, but it will be interesting to watch. Maybe I should not post something that I cannot prove.

While we are talking about low temperatures, take a look at these in Alaska:
60 below at Ft. Yukon
61 below at Chalkyitsik
58 below at Northway
44 below at Fairbanks

Too cold to go ice fishing.
Too cold for hiking.
Too cold to ride your bike.
Too cold to go shopping.
Too cold to do almost anything.
