Dry Weather Sticks With Us

The latest edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below and on iTunes.

Looks like another couple of dry days are in store for us in Central Alabama, though temperatures will shave down a few degrees. Another dry cold front was located across the middle Mississippi River Valley this morning, poised to move through the area with a reinforcing shot of cooler air. Still, high temperatures will be in the ball park of values we expect in early February. The air will be quite dry with rather low humidity.

Not much change on Monday as the stage gets set for a rain event in the latter half of Tuesday and into the early hours of Wednesday. A trough moves out of the southern Rockies with a surface low moving northeast across the Ohio River Valley. This should bring rain and some thunderstorms to Central Alabama with a front Tuesday afternoon and evening. The front should move through fairly rapidly with much of the weather out of the Birmingham area by morning Wednesday. The GFS now indicates that this system may be a tad colder – in fact, Wednesday could be a rather raw day with temperatures holding steady in the 40s.

But as is often the case, recovery comes quickly with temperatures moderating by Thursday and a new shot at some rain on Friday and Saturday as the next storm system forms to our west and zips northeastward. This should drag yet another front through Central Alabama with good rain chances during the latter half of Friday. Those rain chances continue into Saturday. And a new surface low moving along the Gulf Coast promises more rain for Sunday. If the GFS solution is right, this could give us a nice soaker – and I’ll take it. That low moves rapidly into South Carolina by Monday as we dry out and cool off.

The overall pattern into voodoo country continues to be active with another shot of rain around the 22nd and again on the 25th. No signs at this time that the extremely cold air amassing over western and central Canada will break loose and head south, so that will be something to keep a close eye on.

STORM ALERT 2008 TUESDAY NIGHT Don’t forget, our next show will be on Tuesday night at the Northport Civic Center. Doors open at 5:00 and the show begins at 7:00. Bring the whole family! We’d love to see you there.

James Spann will be back bright and early tomorrow morning with the next Weather Xtreme Video posted by 7 am. I hope you have the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful weather today. Take care and God bless.
