An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

THIS AFTERNOON: Temperatures are generally in the 35 to 42 degree range across North Alabama this afternoon, with light rain, drizzle, and some light snow and sleet in the mix as well (mainly over Northwest Alabama).

The much discussed cold core is over North Mississippi this afternoon, with 500 mb temps down to -27 C. This will move northeast, and the dynamic cooling associated with the low will bring snow to Northwest Alabama, Northeast Mississippi, and southern portions of Middle Tennessee. There has been no significant chance in our forecast; the best chance of getting some snow on the grassy areas will be over counties like Marion, Winston, Franklin, Colbert, Lauderdale, Lawrence, and Limestone. And, even there most of the roads will be just wet and slushy since soil temperatures are generally in the 50s. We do NOT expect travel issues in the Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Anniston, or Gadsden areas.

HALEYVILLE: See this late image from our SKYCAM network in downtown Haleyville where snow is falling moderately to heavy…

Please scroll down for the snow “FAQ”, and watch the Weather Xtreme video for all of the graphics and details.

THE DAYS AHEAD: Tomorrow will be cloudy and cold with some lingering light rain, drizzle, or snow mainly during the morning. Then, we will see a clearing sky Wednesday, followed by sunny weather on Thursday and Friday with a warming trend. We should reach the low 60s by Friday.

WEEKEND PEEK: Looks very nice. Partly sunny Saturday with a high in the low 60s. Clouds increase Sunday, but the rain with the next system should hold off until Sunday and Monday. the high will be up in the mid 60s Sunday afternoon.

We will deal with rain on Monday of next week, followed by much colder air. Again, see the Weather Xtreme video for details.
