THIS MORNING: A sharp cold front bisects Alabama this morning, with a huge temperature spread. West of the front, Haleyville has dropped to 39 degrees, but over East Alabama Alexander City reports 69… a 30 degree spread! Needless to say, there will be a big variation in temperatures across our state today. Northwest Alabama will hold in the 40s all day, while places like Roanoke and Lafayette could see 70 degrees easily.

A southwest flow aloft will keep the sky cloudy through tonight with periods of light rain continuing. Nothing really heavy, and hardly any thunder.

TOMORROW: Still looks cold and raw. And, model trends continue the idea of a very intense upper air vorticity maximum rolling through here with very cold air aloft. This means the rain could taper off and mix with, or change to light snow or snow flurries before it all ends. But, if that happens, we don’t expect any significant accumulation or travel issues. I guess there might be a few spots over far North or Northeast Alabama where the grassy areas could get white if we have a convective snow shower, but even there it won’t create any issues. Temperatures hold in the 40s all day tomorrow with a chilly north breeze.

THURSDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND: These four days will be dry with mostly sunny cool days and fair, cold nights. A dry cold front will pass through late Friday, simply reinforcing the cold air over the Deep South. Lows will be in the 25-32 degree range, with highs in the 50s.

Dry weather continues into next week, but the GFS hints at some potentially active weather later in the month; see the Weather Xtreme video for long range ideas.
