SW Alabama Storm May Be Producing Tornado

| December 22, 2011 @ 11:45 am

Radar shows strong indications of a tornado now between Chatom and Millry in northern Washington County, moving into Clarke County.

It will pass near Coffeeville and stay west of Grove Hill it appears. It could threaten Thomasville or Sweet Water in the next 60 minutes.

This is not in our area, but we share it to indicate that the threat for severe weather is significant for areas from Washington and Choctaw Counties up through Wilcox, Dallas and southern Perry Counties over the next couple of hours. This threat will translate northeastward into Chilton, Autauga and Lowndes Counties and into Coosa, Elmore and Montgomery Counties as well.

There is a threat for tornadoes, including significant (EF2 or greater) ones with the isolated storms that form ahead of the main line.

Further north to I-20, there is a threat for severe storms with the possibility of an isolated tornado, but the best threat is over Southwest and South Central Alabama.
