NICE REBOUND: Be sure and scroll down for J.B.’s long list of lows across Alabama this morning. The very dry air, as expected, has heated very effectively today, and most places are in the low 50s this afternoon. An approaching upper trough is bringing a band of mid and high clouds into the state this evening, and should make for a spectacular sunset.

Tonight won’t be as cold as last night; most places will see a low in the low to mid 30s, although some of the colder valleys across Northeast Alabama will probably reach the 20s.

TOMORROW AND FRIDAY: The warming process continues, with mid 50s tomorrow, and mid 60s Friday. A few clouds will begin to show up Friday, but we should stay dry.

WEEKEND OUTLOOK: The models are in better agreement. The sky will be generally cloudy on Saturday and Sunday, and we are going to go ahead and mention some risk of scattered light rain both days. But, nothing heavy, and nothing really continuous. The weather will stay mild with highs in the low to mid 60s both days.

NEXT WEEK: We will stay generally cloudy Monday through Wednesday as a moist flow continues. We might see a little light rain Monday, but the better chance of rain, and maybe even a thunderstorm, will come Tuesday and Wednesday with a strong upper low rolling through the Deep South. Then, that upper feature will phase with a northern branch trough, and bring in more very cold air by Thursday and Friday. The cold air intrusion will be dry, and won’t last more than a couple of days, very similar to the cold snap that is ending now. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

LONG RANGE: Still no sign of the NAO going strongly negative, but just about every winter we have at least one major pattern change, so for those wanting a more extended period of cold, unsettled weather, just a reminder the season is far from over. Just getting started, in fact.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
