The Warming Trend Continues

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

WARMER DAYS: We begin this Thursday with cold temperatures, but not as cold as yesterday. Coldest spot I can find over on the Skywatcher chat is Black Creek in Etowah County; Vic Bell there reports 24 degrees. Most other spots are somewhere between 28 and 34. We warm nicely today, with a high in the mid to upper 50s with a good supply of sunshine tomorrow. Tomorrow we reach the mid 60s with a mix of sun and clouds.

WEEKEND RAIN POTENTIAL: We will maintain the chance of a little light rain at times Saturday and Sunday, but the rain won’t be continuous, and amounts should be generally less than 1/4 inch. The weather stays mild with a high well up in the 60s both Saturday and Sunday.

NEXT WEEK: Not much change on Monday; mild with a chance of showers. Then, a stronger upper feature will bring a much better chance of widespread rain and thunderstorms by Tuesday, Tuesday night, and possibly into Wednesday morning. There will be quite a bit of dynamic forcing, and with a little surface based instability we might have a window for a few strong storms Tuesday night.

The rain tapers off Wednesday, and much colder air blows in here on Thursday and Friday. Looks like we could see lows back in the 15-25 degree range across the northern half of Alabama by Friday and Saturday morning, much like the recent cold snap. The cold air will be dry with no risk of winter weather mischief. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Lots of Alabama Crimson Tide fans are headed to New Orleans for Monday’s BCS Championship game. The weather will be dry today through tomorrow with highs in the 60s. The high Saturday and Sunday will be very close to 70 with a chance of scattered showers both days; not much change on Monday with some risk of a shower or two and a high in the upper 60s. We promise no rain inside the Superdome for the game itself Monday night, unless the roof springs a leak.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
