Showers/Storms Firing, Warning Issued in Mississippi

| January 8, 2012 @ 10:13 pm

Showers and thunderstorms were beginning to edge back to the north a bit tonight over central Alabama.

Rain and isolated thunder covered a good bit of Tuscaloosa and Bibb Counties at this hour, lifting into Shelby and Chilton Counties. One embedded storm west of Thorsby was heading toward southeastern Shelby County south of Columbiana.

Showers and storms were building to the west as well back across Central Mississippi and into northern Louisiana.  A severe thunderstorm warning was just issued for Winston County in East Central Mississippi.  A potentially sever storm was headed toward Noxapater MS.  This storm could end up in Pickens County in West Central Alabama eventually.

All this activity seems to be developing as our languishing frontal system prepares to likely move back north as a warm front as a surface low develops back over Texas.

Periods of showers and storms will be likely through much of the day tomorrow across Central Alabama.

Patchy fog has developed outside shower areas tonight and a dense fog advisory has been issued for all of Central Alabama through 9 a.m. tomorrow. Be carefu if you must be driving.
