Slow Weekend Warm-Up

| January 13, 2012 @ 2:39 pm

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

THIS AFTERNOON: Temperatures are colder than forecast… Birmingham is at 38 degrees at 2:00, and I say it is unlikely we reach the low 40s today. Again, model guidance has been just too warm. Scottsboro has yet to rise above freezing up in Jackson County; they are at 32 degrees at 2:00. The sky is mostly sunny with scattered mid to high level clouds.

The weather will be cold again tonight. Needless to say, we will reject MOS guidance and go lower; we figure lows early tomorrow will be somewhere between 18 and 25 with a clear sky and light wind.

WEEKEND WARM-UP: Look for highs back in the mid 50s tomorrow and Sunday with a good supply of sunshine both days. Sunday morning won’t be as cold as recent mornings, but a light freeze is likely with a low between 28 and 32.

NEXT WEEK: Clouds increase Monday, and the next chance of showers for Alabama will come late Monday night into Tuesday with a passing cold front. Rain amounts of about 1/2 inch look likely, and while there might be some thunder, no severe weather is expected. Drier and cooler returns Wednesday. See the Weather Xtreme video for the long range details and ideas.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.

I had a great today visiting with the 3rd graders at Edgewood Elementary School in Homewood… be looking for them on the Pepsi KIDCAM today at 5:00 on ABC 33/40 News. My next Weather Xtreme video will be posted by 7:00 a.m. Monday… Brian Peters will have the video updates tomorrow and Sunday. Enjoy the weekend!
