More Changes Ahead

**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today… dealing with media issues concerning ABC News; we should be back on the regular production schedule tomorrow**

CLOUDS RETURN TOMORROW: Temperatures will warm, and low level moisture will increase tomorrow. Some spots could exceed 70 degrees tomorrow afternoon with a generally cloudy sky. A few scattered showers could break out by afternoon, but nothing really widespread is likely.

THURSDAY: Below is the forecast 500 mb heights from the NAM, valid at 6pm local time Thursday…

Note this time we are dealing with an upper low in the southern branch of the jet stream, moving pretty close to the Gulf Coast. This is not a classic severe weather configuration for North Alabama. Below is the forecast STP (significant tornado parameter) valid at 6pm local time Thursday…

Unlike previous systems, where forecast STP values were over 2 here, this time we have no significant STP value with the upper low so far south, and marginal thermodynamics.

Below is the SPC Day Three convective outlook (for Thursday)…

The standard “slight risk” is up for South Alabama, but no risk here. No doubt there could be a few strong storms, but clearly the best chance of severe weather will stay down south this time. Of course, we will keep an eye on this as it gets closer in case something changes.

We do expect some significant rain amounts; some communities could see two inches of rain, and flash flooding issues are not out of the question.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: The 12Z GFS shows a slower moving ULL, and keeps rain going into the Friday, which again leads to the flooding concerns. We finally dry out over the weekend with a good supply of sunshine Saturday and Sunday, and highs dropping back into the 50s. You can see the morning Weather Xtreme video for more details and long range ideas.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. Scroll down for the show notes on this week’s new edition we recorded last night.
