Storms Continue to Weaken

| February 1, 2012 @ 9:31 pm

Rain and thunderstorms continue tonight from the Tennessee Valley to west of Cullman to Jasper to east of Aliceville. The precipitation area narrows from a wide band over much of Winston and Cullman Counties to a thin line over Pickens County.

The heaviest activity is over western Cullman County. Some decent activity is over Walker County.

The southern part of the line is eroding pretty quickly now. This weakening part of the line will pass through the Birmingham area between 10 and 10:30. It will have some brief heavy rain and gusty winds in spots, and some lightning possibly.

Tuscaloosa will barely see any rain.

The fog is very thick ahead of the line, with visibilities less than two miles over a wide area and less in spots. At Calera, the visibility has been at 1/2 mile or less for awhile. The fog situation will improve as the line of showers moves through, but it will worsen again later tonight.
