MONDAY, MONDAY: Anybody remember the song by the Mamas and Papas?

“Monday Monday, so good to me,
Monday Monday, it was all I hoped it would be
Oh Monday morning, Monday morning couldn’t guarantee
That Monday evening you would still be here with me.

Monday Monday, can’t trust that day,
Monday Monday, sometimes it just turns out that way
Oh Monday morning, you gave me no warning of what was to be
Oh Monday Monday, how yould cou leave and not take me.”

We are starting this day with temperatures around freezing, but with a good supply of sunshine through scattered clouds we will rise to near 60 degrees this afternoon.

TONIGHT/TOMORROW: Clouds will thicken tonight ahead of the next short wave to the west, but this one will dampen out and pass well to the north, meaning just a small risk of a shower, or a few sprinkles tomorrow morning. We might see the sun breaking through tomorrow afternoon with a high in the mid 60s.

HERE COMES THE 70s: The warm-up continues through mid-week. A good chance we see a high around 70 Wednesday, followed by low to mid 70s on Thursday.I guess we might consider the risk of a few isolated showers Wednesday with a decent moisture pool in place, but there is very little dynamic support for rain for the day should be mostly dry.

The next decent chance of showers, and maybe a few thunderstorms, will come Thursday afternoon into Thursday night with a phased upper trough moving in from the west. For now the severe weather threat looks low, and rain amounts should be around 1/2 inch. That rain should end early Friday, maybe during the pre-dawn hours.

COLDER FRIDAY: Friday looks much colder and blustery; the high will drop to near 50 degrees with a cool northwest breeze as the sky clears. But, the pattern is very progressive, and the colder air won’t stick around long, which has certainly been the theme this winter.

WEEKEND PEEK: At this point the weekend looks very nice with ample sunshine Saturday and Sunday; the GFS is printing 61 Saturday and 64 Sunday, which looks pretty close to being correct. Rain then returns on Monday of next week.

STORM ALERT 2012: Our annual severe weather awareness tour across Alabama comes to Calhoun County this week… we will be at Pleasant Valley High School Thursday night; the show begins at 6:30… be sure and get there early for a good seat. Pleasant Valley is near Jacksonville, and not far from Gadsden. We hope to see many of your there.

LONG RANGE: Still no sign of any winter weather mischief through the first week of March… see the Weather Xtreme video for graphics and details. Again, I caution you that some of our biggest snows have come deep into March, and even into the first week of April. And, for gardeners, remember the average date of the last freeze here is March 23, but we have seen a freeze as late as April 23.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. The National Water center will be the topic of conversation among your favorite weather dweebs tonight as Gary Carter from the NWS Office of Hydrologic Development will be the Guest WeatherBrain. He will be at tomorrow’s groundbreaking in Tuscaloosa. We record this week’s episode at 8:30 p.m…
