4.0 Quake In SE Missouri

| February 21, 2012 @ 8:19 am

The quake was measured nicely in Huntsville by Steve Jones…

Steve writes…

“A small regional earthquake occurred earlier this morning at 09:58:43 UTC (3:58:43 am CST) in southeastern Missouri, in the New Madrid Seismic Zone. The quake was measured at magnitude 4.0 by the USGS. News sources are reporting no major damage or injuries from the event. At the AlabamaQuake seismic station in Huntsville, I recorded the P and S waves as they passed by, about one minute after the event occurred. The peak vertical ground movement here in Huntsville was measured at 2.3 micrometers (um), at 4:00:39 am CST.

The seismogram and epicenter location map are posted at https://alabamaquake.com on the “Huntsville Seismograms” and “Recent Earthquake Maps” pages, and I have also attached them here.”
