Nice Weekend Ahead

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

THIS AFTERNOON: It is a cool, crisp afternoon across the great state of Alabama. The sky has cleared over about the northern half of the state, while South Alabama remains overcast. Temperatures are mostly in the 50s, although Tuscaloosa has slipped up to 61 degrees at mid-afternoon.

Tonight will be clear and chilly; we will drop into the mid to upper 30s by daybreak tomorrow; some of the colder spots could very well see a light freeze.

NICE WEEKEND: We start the weekend tomorrow with a bright sunny sky and a high between 67 and 70. Clouds will increase Sunday, but the day should remain dry with a high around the 70 degree mark. A few showers could move in here Sunday night as an upper low over the Southwest U.S. opens up, weakens, and moves toward the Great Lakes.

NEXT WEEK: A weak front will approach Alabama Monday and bring the risk of showers, but the upper support will be lifting away, and the front will stall out and fizzle out before passing through here. This will leave Alabama in a warm, moist airmass all week, meaning some risk of showers just about every day. But, with little dynamic forcing, showers next week should be widely spaced, and rain won’t be really organized or heavy. Look for daily highs in the 75 to 80 degree range next week.

AT THE BEACH: For Panama City west to Gulf Shores, the weather over the weekend and through much of next week will be pretty decent. Expect about 4 to 6 hours of sunshine each day, with some risk of scattered showers and storms on daily basis. But, like in summer, the rain won’t be widespread. And, later in the week there is evidence that showers will thin out, or go away completely by Thursday and Friday. Afternoon highs will be in the 70s… the sea water temperature at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab this afternoon is a cool 65 degrees.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
