Kevin Harned, WAVE 3 Chief MeteorologistTonight’s Guest WeatherBrain is the Chief Meteorologist at WAVE channel 3, the NBC affiliate in Louisville. Kevin Harned is a graduate of Purdue University and began his career at WAVE 3 in June, 1998. Over the years he has worked with the area’s best meteorologists: Tom Wills & John Belski. Harned became the chief meteorologist at WAVE in 2010. Harned was one of the youngest members of the American Meteorological Society to receive the AMS Television Broadcast Seal of Approval. He enjoys forecasting, but says there is nothing like witnessing the power of nature.

Kevin’s favorite weather is 70 degrees and sunny, but he also enjoys a good thunderstorm. In his spare time, he likes to water ski and enjoys spending time with friends & family.

In his years at WAVE, Kevin has hosted WAVE 3 Listens, filled in on the anchor desk and even delivered breaking news a time or two. He is currently the host of Secrets of Louisville Chefs & Secrets of Louisville Chefs LIVE on the Ion Network. He makes numerous community appearances and uses his “weird” hobby of auctioneering to benefit many local charities. Harned says that weather is his hobby and people are his passion!

As an additional guest, we speak with Robert Ballard, Science and Operations Officers at NWS Honolulu, HI. Hawaii is known for it’s ideal weather, but this past week featured some severe weather including hail and a supercell.
