Trees Down Near Pell City.

| April 5, 2012 @ 7:42 pm

Numerous trees down in the Wolf Creek area south of Pell City.

This storm has weakened a bit.

There were some reports of rotation and even funnel clouds with the ominous shelf cloud that preceded the severe storm from Jefferson into St. Clair. But there was no rotation, just ragged and scary looking clouds along the gust front.

Winds did gust to 58 mph at Vulcan Park in Birmingham.

Severe thunderstorm warnings continue for Talladega and Coosa County. They have been canceled for Shelby and Chilton.

Sirens were sounded in Moody this evening during the severe thunderstorm warning.

Sirens are usually associated with tornado warnings, but sounding them is a local decision that emergency management makes based on the threat to their citizens.

I am sure that St. Clair County EM know there are lots of little league games and other outdoor activities going on where people may not have gotten the warnings in advance. Some folks will say that desensitizes the public when they sound warnings for events other that tornadoes, but you can’t fault them for making a decision they feel is in the best interest of their population.
