Morning Update…

| March 4, 2008 @ 5:46 am | 3 Replies

Rain and some thunderstorms continue over the eastern third of Alabama this morning.

The back edge of the rain extends from just west of Gadsden to Ashville to Clanton to Greenville and on into South Alabama.

Most of the lightning now is from Tallapoosa County back to just east of Montgomery and points south.

No severe thunderstorm or tornado warnings in effect now for anywhere in Alabama or the U.S. for that matter.

A tornado watch continues for parts of East and Northeast Alabama into Georgia until 9 a.m., but it is being carved up faster than a Thanksgiving turkey. Another tornado watch continues for South and Southeast Alabama and Southwest Georgia. It goes until noon.

A powerful cold front is knifing through West Alabama. It extends from Moulton and Double Springs to Jasper then to between Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. Temperatures will drop some 15 degrees behind the front from the middle 60s to near 50. They will then fall slowly into the 40s.

Strong winds will continue this morning. Another lake wind advisory will be issued shortly for the morning.

There will be a little wrap around light rain as far south as I-20 through this afternoon, possibly mixed with light snow in Northwest Alabama. Most areas will see a light freeze overnight.

Things get interesting by Friday and Friday night as an overrunning situation leads to a chance of rain, possible mixing with or changing over to snow over North Alabama. Stay tuned.
