Mike Wilhelm and John Brown on the Plains

| April 14, 2012 @ 10:50 am

Two of our crack Alabama storm chasers are in the heart of the high risk today over the Plains states today.

Mike Wilhelm and John Brown are in the Oklahoma/Kansas area waiting for the storms to fire.

You can already see signs of convective initiation from southwestern Kansas through the Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles. Instabilities are starting to build and the cap has eroded over much of that area. In addition, strong upper level winds are starting to push out of the Rockies and onto the Plains.

The SPC has that a tornado watch won’t be long in coming over this area. In fact, it was just issued until 6 p.m. for parts of Kansas and northern Oklahoma.

Further to north, along the warm front, warnings are starting to be issued in Nebraska.
