A city-by-city look at potential travel problems or no travel problems:
MEMPHIS
Winter Storm Watch Friday through Friday evening. Rain tonight becoming heavy after midnight as temperatures fall through the 30s and north winds gust to 30 mph at times. (Translation: a cold, miserable rain.) Rain becoming mixed with snow and sleet Saturday morning and all snow Saturday afternoon with 1 to 2 inch accumulations. Additional light accumulation of snow Friday night.
NASHVILLE
Rain will mix with snow and sleet Friday afternoon with little or no accumulation. There could be some light accumulation of snow Friday night.
LITTLE ROCK
Winter Storm Warning tonight and Friday. Rain changing to snow after midnight with about 2 inches accumulating. An additional 1 to 4 inches on Friday making the total from this storm 2 to 6 inches of snow.
OKLAHOMA CITY
Winter Storm Watch tonight. Snow today continuing through Friday morning.
LOUISVILLE
Snow and sleet mixed after midnight tonight. Widespread snow and sleet Friday with as much as 4 inches accumulating Friday and Friday night.
WASHINGTON
Looks like all rain for the nation’s capitol Friday afternoon through Saturday.
NEW YORK (SOMETIMES CALLED THE BIG APPLE)
No snow, but heavy rain expected along with some thunderstorms Friday night and Saturday.
BOSTON
Heavy rain Friday night and Saturday. A mix of rain and snow after midnight Saturday night.
PORTLAND
A mix of some snow and freezing rain over the weekend, but little additional snow accumulation. That might be welcome news for Maine’s largest city since they have already received 96 inches of snow this winter, which is 44 inches more than they should have by March 6. Last year at this time, they had only received 31 inches, so they have more than tripled last year. They do have 7 inches of snow on the ground this morning that fell from earlier storms.
ATLANTA
Rain becoming heavy at times by Friday morning. Numerous showers continuing Friday night. No snow expected.
ST. LOUIS
Blustery with a chance of snow, but no accumulation mentioned. That means they will probably be dancing in their snow-covered streets after what they have been through lately.
DALLAS/FT. WORTH
A Snow Advisory from 4:00 p.m. today through tonight. A 100% chance of rain and a few thunderstorms mixing with some snow this evening and all snow after midnight. Up to 2 inches accumulation of snow. Our colleague, Kevin Selle, will have a busy time.
CHATTANOOGA
Rain Friday and Friday night.
GREENVILLE/SPARTANBURG
Those two NW South Carolina cities will see some rain after midnight tonight, but low temperatures will be in the 40s. Widespread rain on Friday with high in the mid 50s. Widespread rain continuing Friday night. It should stay warm enough throughout this event to get by without snow.
CHARLESTON
That beautiful city on the South Carolina coast will have all raiin with this storm system with showers starting after midnight tonight. Rain will become heavy at times Friday afternoon, along with some thunderstorms. That will continue Friday night, but it willl be much too warm for any snow threat.
CHARLOTTE
Rain becoming widespread Friday morning and continuing Friday night. The rain will decrease to scattered showers Saturday morning. No threat of snow with highs Friday 55 and Saturday also 55. The low Friday night during a steady rain will be about 48.
GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK
Showers starting after midnight. All rain on Friday with highs in the 40s and 50s. Snow showers will enter the picture over the higher elevations late Friday night. On Saturday, even the Gatlinburg area will have showers and snow showers mixed during the morning and continuing in the afternoon. Their official forecast does not mention snow accumulation for places like Gatlinburg, Cades Cove and Pigeon Forge.
