Weekend Looks Drier

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

DRY AIR TAKES OVER: Expect a pretty decent amount of sunshine across Alabama today as dry air moves in; the high will be in the upper 70s for most communities. Pretty much the same story tomorrow; partly sunny with only an outside risk of an afternoon shower. The high tomorrow will be at or just over 80 degrees.

WEEKEND LOOKS MUCH BETTER: Earlier in the week, all global models painted a very wet picture for Alabama with a surface low tracking across the southern counties of the state. But, over the last 24 hours, models have shifted the system well to the south, over the Gulf of Mexico, and that manes a drier situation for our state.

Understand there will be a chance of rain on Saturday, but now it looks like the rain will be light and rather spotty; nothing like the soaking advertised a few days ago. We will make the adjustments to the forecast accordingly, and mention just a few periods of light rain late tomorrow night, Saturday, and Saturday night. We might even see a decent period or two of sunshine Saturday.

The sky becomes mostly sunny Sunday as drier air works into the state and the Gulf low moves well to the northeast. Highs over the weekend will be in the 70s.

NEXT WEEK: The first half of the week looks great with sunny mild days and clear cool nights. See the Weather Xtreme video for details and graphics.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
