An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

I wanted to thank everyone again for all of the great pictures from Saturday morning… you can see all of them on our Flickr feed, and scroll down for a great slideshow put together by Mike Wilhelm. Other than those nasty accidents on bridges Saturday morning, it was great fun.

BENIGN WEATHER: Looks like the weather will be pretty quiet through Thursday. We might see a few showers on the radar from time to time with weak energy passing through, but moisture will be limited and for now we won’t mention any significant chance of rain in the forecast through Thursday. Temperatures will rise into the mid 60s today, but will drop back a few degrees tomorrow as slightly cooler air drops into the state. Then, Wednesday we will head toward 70 degrees, with low 70s likely by Thursday and Friday.

Last week, the GFS was advertising a strong system on Thursday with a chance of strong to severe storms. That system has been delayed, and come through here in weaker form as the weekend begins. The model is hinting at the best chance of showers and storms coming Friday night, possibly into Saturday morning. Consistency in GFS output, and agreement with other models has not been good; hopefully the situation will be more clear in coming days.

THE WEEKEND: I think we will need to hang on to at least a chance of a shower or thunderstorm during the day Saturday, but Sunday looks rain free with a mild afternoon. The high Saturday will be in the upper 60s, with mid 60s on Sunday.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: A strong wave shows up impacting Alabama one week from tomorrow (Tuesday March 18) with a chance of strong storms. Other waves are out there in voodoo country, but no need to try and be specific this far in advance with the active pattern continuing.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. We will record a new show tonight… it should be posted by 10:00 or so.

SPECIAL ABC 33/40 NOAA WEATHER RADIO OFFER: You can purchase a top of the line Midland NOAA Weather Radio at any Handy TV location in this part of Alabama for only $29.95. These receivers have the new digital technology that allows you to choose the counties for which the alarm sounds. Get more information here.

I will speak today at Miles Jewish School out on Montclair Road… I will be back in the office by early afternoon and the afternoon Weather Xtreme video should be ready by 3:30. Enjoy the day!
