Facebook Folly

| June 3, 2012 @ 6:53 am

To my surprise, last night I find my Facebook account has been “disabled”…

No warning, no explanation. Just disabled like that. My account has been at the 5,000 friend maximum for years, but the “like page” associated with the account has over 99,000 followers that get critical weather information like tornado warnings, along with multiple daily weather updates and other useful information.

So, what is the story here? I have an idea, most likely it is involving people that don’t what I have to say (the WeatherBrains buzzer has to sound here) reporting “abuse”, but I sure can’t prove that just yet. Maybe just some random mistake. I really don’t know.

I have sent multiple emails up the chain, and even had to send a photocopy of my Alabama driver’s license to them to prove my identity, which is disturbing in itself.

If I can take on Dianne Sawyer and get results, I have no fear taking on these people. Hopefully it is just a mistake, but they need to stop disabling these high traffic accounts that are pushing important information to the masses with NO warning. That is boneheaded. I don’t even know if blog comments will work now since it is tied to the Facebook account.

While I am waiting to be restored, let me invite you to Google Plus for staying in touch. I have been on Google Plus since day one in the beta phase, and it is truly a wonderful platform. And, of course, the Spann Twitter army is alive and well.

MID-MORNING UPDATE: The Facebook account and page were restored around 10:30 this morning. Still no explanation on the takedown, but glad to be back and the quick response.
