Wind Damage Possible Over NW Alabama

| June 11, 2012 @ 5:48 pm

While the tornado warning for a small part of NE Mississippi has been cancelled… the storms moving into Northwest Alabama have a high risk of producing straight line winds in excess of 70 mph. Severe thunderstorm warnings are up for much of Lamar, Marion, Franklin, and Colbert counties. The storms will continue to move southeast over the next few hours; highest risk of wind damage remains over the western half of the state, along and west of I-65.

Storms could reach the Tuscaloosa and Birmingham metro areas later this evening. Severe weather risk is smaller to the east.

The tornado threat is very minimal… straight line winds are the issue.

Please heed severe thunderstorm warnings this evening and prepare for winds that could exceed 50 mph in many places ahead of the line!
