High Noon in Alabama

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch is no longer in effect for the immediate Birmingham area.

However, a Tornado Watch continues for a number of NE, East/Central and Central Alabama counties until 6:00 p.m. All of those areas are east of Birmingham.

By midday, the intense thunderstorm that triggered several Tornado Warnings in East Alabama had moved into Georgia and was passing mostly north of the Atlanta area.

Showers continue, especially from Etowah County southward to Montgomery, but at noon there were no intense thunderstorms in that mix.

The big question, and not easy to answer, is will there be any redevelopment this afternoon. We have already had two batches move through. We are cautiously optimistic that any significant redevelopment this afternoon would be mostly over the northern part of the state. No way we can issue a written guarantee on that.

Some of those heavier showers in East Alabama at noon were south of Gadsden, east of Ashville and west of Anniston.

Looking back to the west, more strong thunderstorms were moving east from near Memphis to just north of the Mississippi/Tennessee border. We see little or no redevelopment over the rest of Mississippi, Louisiana or Arkansas.
