Calm Weather Ahead

RADAR CHECK: Not much happening at mid-afternoon across Alabama; we have seen a few showers from time to time over the western counties, but most places have been rain-free today, and so far no sign of any thunderstorm mischief north of here alone the approaching cold front.
We also note a MCV (mesoscale convective vortex) over Mississippi, but so far not much storm action there either. The air is somewhat stable over much of Alabama and Mississippi after last night’s derecho.
We will hang on to some risk of a few scattered storms along the front this evening, but it will be nothing like that nasty thunderstorm mass that moved southward through Alabama last night with many reports of damaging wind.
TOMORROW THROUGH FRIDAY: The weather looks calm and mostly dry. Partly sunny days, fair nights, and only about a 10 to 15 percent chance of any one neighborhood seeing an afternoon shower. The high will be very close to 90 degrees all three days; lower dew points tomorrow will mean low humidity levels.
OUR WEEKEND: No real change. The chance of a shower remains small, and the sky will be partly sunny Saturday and Sunday. A low level easterly flow should bring highs back down into the 85 to 89 degree range, which is about average for mid-June in Alabama.
NEXT WEEK: The weather remains calm for at least the first half of next week, with seasonal temperatures and only isolated showers each afternoon.
The GFS continues to hint at possible back yard tropical mischief in about 10-12 days, but it remains to be seen what, if anything, develops in the Gulf. The 12Z run takes that disturbance to the Mexican coast, south of Brownsville, Texas. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.
