The Warming Trend Continues

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

Our warming trend is progressing right on schedule. Looks like we can expect afternoon highs in the 74 to 77 degree range tomorrow and Friday with a mix of sun and clouds, and a good breeze out of the southwest. The chance of rain remains so small it really isn’t worth mentioning in the forecast.

THE WEEKEND: The 12Z run of the GFS continues to show a weakening front moving into Alabama on Saturday, which will bring a chance of scattered showers and possibly a thunderstorm. The front will slowly dissipate Saturday night and Sunday, but the latest model runs suggests we will need to hold a chance of showers into Sunday. No wash-out, no severe weather, and no real heavy rain over the weekend, but just keep in mind there will be some shower activity around. Afternoon highs will remain in the 70s on Saturday, but the latest GFS is now showing CAD setting up (cold air damming), which will mean cooler air moving into the state from the east. For this reason, we will drop the high temperature forecast on Sunday back into the 60s. We might even a see a few spots near the Georgia border with a high in the upper 50s Sunday afternoon, deeper in the wedge.

NEXT WEEK: Getting into a little model madness now. We are still looking at two rain events next week; one Tuesday and Tuesday night, and another one in the Thursday-Friday time frame. The 12Z GFS is much stronger with the lead system, and weaker with the second one, which is contrary to previous runs. We will just mention a chance of showers and storms during both of those time periods, and we can adjust the forecast as we get closer to next week.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes.
