An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

While the western two-thirds of Alabama should enjoy a mostly sunny and warm day today, yet another wedge front is creating some issues for East Alabama this morning. Some low level convergence along the wedge is responsible for a few showers over the eastern part of Alabama; those showers are lifting northward, and will linger for the next couple of hours.

Communities west of I-65 will be close to 80 today, while places near the Georgia border might not get out of the 60s with clouds much of the day.

REST OF THE WEEK: Severe storms are going to be possible on a daily basis for areas west of Alabama with two systems. The lead wave will lift toward the Great Lakes, and will bring a chance of a few showers and storms to Alabama by Wednesday afternoon or Wednesday night. We don’t expect any organized severe weather with this one here in our state.

The stronger wave will impact Alabama at the end of the week on Friday with a healthy round of showers and thunderstorms. This will have the potential for strong to severe storms with a decent amount of shear and instability showing up; we will monitor the situation as we go along this week.

Temperatures will be relatively warm this week, with highs generally between 75 and 80 degrees (except for the far eastern part of Alabama today).

WEEKEND PEEK: Much cooler air moves into Alabama over the weekend following Friday’s storms. Looks like the high on Saturday will be only in the low 60s, and by daybreak Sunday some of the colder spots could reach the upper 30s with a chance of scattered light frost. At this point, we don’t expect that to be a problem for the growers, but we will keep an eye on it. For now the weekend looks dry; Saturday could feature some lingering clouds, but Sunday should be a sunny day.

PRIME TIME TV SPECIAL: Join ABC 33/40 on the occasional of the tenth anniversary of the April 8, 1998 F5 tornado for a prime time weather special. The show will air from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. tomorrow; for one hour we will look back at this historic storm, through the eyes of those that covered the storm for ABC 33/40, and those in the path of the storm who survived. We will also be going to a live memorial service at Open Door Church, one of the many churches who lost their building that horrible Wednesday night.

Look for the next Weather Xtreme video here by 3:30 this afternoon… enjoy the day!
