Mid-Morning Update

| August 30, 2012 @ 9:14 am

As tropical storm Isaac continues to makes its way slowly to the north, we will remain under a threat for severe weather through out most of the day. There is a slight risk of severe weather off to our southwest as well as a tornado watch for some of our southwestern counties including: Sumter, Greene, Hale, Perry, Marengo, Dallas, Autauga, Montgomery and Lowndes until 4 PM. This slight risk and watch could be extended north and east through out the day as Isaac continues its movement.

There are several tornado warned storms in southwest Alabama as well as east-central Mississippi. The storms are expected to persist through out the day as feeder bands continue to wrap up and around the center of Isaac near the Mississippi River. This is not a typical tornado outbreak with large destructive tornadoes. Any tornadoes that develop will be quick spin-up rain-wrapped tornadoes, that will only last for a few minutes.

As we move through the day, rainfall will become an issue in some areas. Many counties in southern and central Mississippi are under flash flood warnings. A current look at the radar show the heaviest activity off to our west, but some heavier showers are working their way into southern Tuscaloosa County from Bibb, Hale and Perry Counties. Lamar county has some reports of moderate rain as well.
