While Isaac was the big story for the last week, it looks like we will still be dealing with the remnants of Isaac for a few more days as the atmosphere over Central Alabama remains very moist with precipitable water values remaining high – around 2 inches – and dew points stay in the lower 70s. This means that we’ll be seeing daily showers driven primarily by the heat of the day. As James noted yesterday, the radar had that measles look to it. One of those small showers brought 15 hundredths of an inch to my gauge.

The tropics are still active with Kirk and Leslie, but the good news is that neither of these poses a threat to any land areas.

The upper reflection of Isaac was over the mid-Mississippi River Valley this morning and it will continue to move slowly across the Southeast US during the next several days. This should help to enhance showers and clouds primarily on Monday. By Tuesday it really opens up and moves out while another small upper low appears over the Florida Peninsula. The Florida upper low edges our way while a strong trough drops into the North Central US on Wednesday. This trough embedded in the strong westerlies could bring a weak cold front into the area by the end of the week. This front would also enhance shower chances while promising at least a slight decrease in humidity levels for us.

Severe weather across the country is somewhat limited. SPC is outlooking a slight risk in the area of the mid-Mississippi River Valley near the remnants of Isaac. For Days 2 and 3 the severe weather focus shifts to the North Central US ahead of the trough.

And the long range GFS has a very nice and much cooler look to it around the middle of September with a very, very, very deep trough over the eastern half of the country with the promise of much, much, much cooler and drier air. Let’s hope the voodoo prediction comes try because I am ready for some Fall conditions!!

I have been out of pocket for the last couple of weekends due to a trip to Alaska that my wife and I had been planning for nearly a year. The weather was not the best with low clouds and drizzle, but I saw some things like whales and glaciers and icebergs that I had never seen before as well as Alaska, so it was a great trip. I hope your weekend is a good one. Godspeed.
