Do you remember??? A little Earth Wind and Fire….

“Do you remember the 21st night of September?
Love was changing the minds of pretenders
While chasing the clouds away

Our hearts were ringing
In the key that our souls were singing.
As we danced in the night,
Remember how the stars stole the night away

Ba de ya, say do you remember
Ba de ya, dancing in September
Ba de ya, never was a cloudy day”

That song came out in the late 70s and it still pops up in mind every year on this day. Guess that is what happens when you grow up in a radio station… these songs are the soundtrack of my young life. The Kirk Franklin video is really cool if you have never seen it… Maurice White of Earth, Wind, and Fire walks into the recording session…

DRY DAYS: Alabama’s weather will be a bit warmer today and tomorrow; we should reach the low to mid 80s with a good supply of sunshine today, and a partly sunny sky tomorrow. The humidity levels will remain low with dewpoints in the 50s.

A dry cold front will pass through tomorrow night, and then a fresh shot of cool, dry air blows in here Sunday. Highs will drop back into the 70s, and we should be in the upper 40s by early Monday of next week.

All of next week, for now, looks rain-free with a slow warming trend. All in all a nice, quiet, calm pattern as we kick off the fall season. The equinox is tomorrow morning at 9:49 a.m. CDT.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: A perfect night; the sky will be clear tonight with temperatures falling from the upper 70s at kickoff into the upper 60s by the fourth quarter.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: For tomorrow’s Alabama/Florida Atlantic game (kickoff 4:00 p.m.)… the sky will be clear with temperatures falling from near 83 at kickoff into the mid 70s by the final whistle. Auburn will host LSU at 6:00 p.m. at Jordan-Hare Stadium; clear weather there with temperatures falling through the 70s. And, the UAB Blazers have a tough assignment; they will be in Columbus, Ohio to take on Ohio State (11:00 a.m. kickoff); the sky will be mostly cloudy with an outside risk of a shower during the game… temperatures will be in the 60s.

GULF COAST: More delightful weather for the area from Panama City west to Gulf Shores, with mostly sunny days and clear nights through early next week. Highs will be in the 80s.

ON THIS DATE IN 2005: Hurricane Rita was gaining strength in the Gulf of Mexico. The night of September 21 Rita reached its maximum intensity, with sustained winds of 180 mph and an estimated minimum pressure of 895 mb, (26.43?). Rita made landfall on September 24 between Sabine Pass, Texas, and Johnson Bayou, Louisiana, as a Category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale with 120 mph winds. It would produce a few tornadoes over West Alabama as the system moved inland.
