Central Alabama Storms Not Severe

| October 18, 2012 @ 1:05 am

As forecast by the short term models, the storms have weakened as they moved into the more stable air over Alabama.

Storms extend across eastern Marion, Winston, Lamar, Fayette, northwestern Walker and into Pickens Counties. They are not severe.

The storms will push east southeast to east northeast across Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, Walker, Cullman and Blount Counties over the next hour. Expect heavy rain, gusty winds, lightning and possibly some small hail.

NOTE FROM CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI
Very impressive supercell storm over Scott County Mississippi is moving in general direction of newton. Will scross I-20 between Forest and Meridian. Showing very large hail. It also could produce a tornado at any time. It will move toward Butler County in Alabama. Current thinking is that it will stay south of Sumter County, but we want our friends there to remain vigilant.

DEBRIS BALL?
Alan Gerard at the NWS Jackson thinks there might be a debris ball on the Scott County storm between Lake and Conehatta. He reports 110 knots of Gate to Gate Shear on the storm.
