Waiting On The Haboob

| October 19, 2012 @ 12:29 pm

(Well, at least as close as we’ll get to one in Alabama).

Haboob is a fancy word for dust storm.

A band of dust, which originated from the dust storm over the Central Plains Tuesday is over North Alabama today. An arc of it is slowly spreading south, approaching the Birmingham area at this hour. Visibility at the surface is being slightly reduced and the plume is giving the sky a milky appearance.

Here is an image from UAH taken from their Severe Weather Twitter account.

Here is the latest visible satellite image. You can barely make out the faint arc approaching Birmingham.
