If you want a quick synopsis of the week ahead, just spell high pressure! It looks like we will be dry for much of the upcoming 6 or 7 days with temperatures gradually warming. We start off with a cool morning Sunday but lows warm into the 50s for the workweek. Highs will be mainly in the 70s for the week starting out today in the lower 70s and reaching near 80 by the end of the workweek.

The upper level pattern begins with a fairly deep trough over the eastern US and morphs into a broad ridge for much of the upcoming week. That broad ridge will keep the traveling westerlies well to our north. Under that upper level ridge will be a surface high which will migrate into the Atlantic by next weekend. By late in the week and into the weekend, the Gulf opens up to our west providing lots of moisture for the next weather system. Right now, it appears that next weekend could be somewhat wet, however, that is verging on voodoo country, so I’ll hold off on a definite forecast of rain and storms for now as we watch the timing of that next weather producer.

Voodoo country still shows no major signs of any extreme cold weather. The GFS model suggests a somewhat flat pattern until around November 2nd when a strong trough could bring a spell of stormy weather to Central Alabama. Again, that far out timing will probably be adjusted before we actually get there.

Tropics are becoming a bit more active, though no active, named storms are going on right now. Two areas of disturbed weather are being watched, one approaching the Central Caribbean and the other well into the Central Atlantic. While neither system appears likely to become a storm in the next couple of days, conditions are expected to become more favorable for development for the system in the Caribbean, so it will bear watching.

The event is being held today at the Helena Amphitheater in Old Town Helena. Gates open to the public at 1 pm with music and food until 8 pm. Tickets are only $10 at the gate. Enjoy the day, and I hope to see you at the Shelby Blues & BBQ. Godspeed.
