Colder Plus Big East Coast Storm

8:49 am – Some technical problems and I’m working on getting the audio fixed in the Weather Xtreme Video.
9:35 am – I believe things are fixed.

Slept a little later than usual this morning, so I’m running a tad behind with the Xtreme.

Big change underway for us as we are getting into some of the coldest air of the season. It even seems quite possible that widespread frost will occur on Monday and Tuesday morning, so if you have any dainty plants you want to protect, you need to move them to warmer spots or cover them. It doesn’t appear likely that we’ll see our first freezing temperatures of the season, though some of the typically colder locations could push 32 degrees pretty hard.

The big trough moving through the eastern US will also have an influence on Sandy. Sandy has been up and down on strength and was back up to a Category 1 hurricane this morning. Sandy will move northeast for the next couple of days before taking a dramatic left turn that will position the storm to come directly into the US East Coast between DC and New York City. The exact point at which Sandy crosses the coastline will determine who gets the worst of the storm. For now, it sure looks like places like New York City, Trenton, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, DC, and all of the small coastal communities are in for some serious problems. Already flash flood watches and coastal flood watches have been issued for much of that area. Also, with cold air coming into the Central US, snow is likely to be a problem for much of the Appalachians and West Virginia already has a winter storm watch in effect for the high elevations of the eastern sections of that state. I expect to see more winter storm watches as the overall details to the effects of Sandy become clearer.

For us we stay dry for the upcoming week with a gradual warming trend toward the latter part of the week. Sandy will make the left turn and come into the coast on Tuesday. Tuesday is likely to be a horrible day for travel with much of the US air travel system affected by the delays and closures that occur from Virginia to Pennsylvania to New England. And Sandy will be slow to leave the area as it slowly weakens and moves northeastward into the Canadian Maritime Provinces by Saturday.

Voodoo country does not look too spectacular after we bid farewell to Sandy. But the pattern stays active though the westerlies retreat a bit meaning somewhat warmer weather for us. Rain shots come around November 5th and 10th.

Been doing some kitchen remodeling and looking forward to getting the house back into some order over the weekend. I plan to enjoy the colder weather and dust off the jackets. I hope that you have a great day, and Godspeed.
