Mild Weekend Ahead; Storms Return Monday

FINE FALL DAY: As forecast, it is a delightful afternoon across Alabama with ample sunshine a temperatures mostly in the upper 60s. Tonight will be cool, but not as cold as recent nights. Low early tomorrow should be in the 37-43 degree range.
MILD WEEKEND: Afternoon temperatures will rise into the low to mid 70s tomorrow and Sunday. The sky will remain mostly sunny tomorrow, but clouds will begin to increase a bit Sunday ahead of a major storm system over the middle of the nation.
SPC maintains the standard “slight risk” of severe weather Sunday for much of Arkansas, and the adjacent states to the west. But, they do not have any formal risk here on Monday as the system sweeps through Alabama.
NEXT WEEK: The 12Z GFS continues the idea of the band of showers and storms sweeping through the state during the day Monday. Forecast wind fields, instability, and helicity values remain very marginal for severe weather, although a few strong storms are certainly possible in the line. Rain amounts of about 1/2 inch are likely.
Much cooler air follows the storms, with highs dropping into the 50s Tuesday and Wednesday, and we should be pretty close to freezing at daybreak Wednesday. The rest of the week will be dry with a warming trend.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: A great night ahead for the first round of the high school playoffs; the sky will be clear with temperatures falling through the 50s during the games. Some North Alabama stadiums could see 40s before the final whistle.
Tomorrow, Alabama will host Texas A&M in Tuscaloosa (2:30 p.m. kickoff)… the sky will be sunny with a kickoff temperature near 73 degrees, then falling into the 60s during the second half as the sun sets. Auburn will host Georgia tomorrow evening (6:00 p.m. kickoff) at Jordan-Hare Stadium; the sky will be clear with temperatures falling from near 68 degrees at kickoff into the 50s during the second half.
In Birmingham, UAB will host Marshall tomorrow afternoon (3:30 p.m. kickoff)… under a sunny sky the kickoff temperature will be near 71 degrees, falling into the low 60s by the fourth quarter.
STORM ALERT XTREME IS TOMORROW: Our annual storm spotter training is coming up tomorrow at the BJCC, as part of the Alabama International Auto show. We begin at 9:00, and you will be done at 2:00. And, as a “thank you”, you will get free admission into the car show. There is no cost, and no need to register, just show up. Brian Peters will be the trainer, and we ask all existing and potential Skywatchers to attend.
