Weather Pattern Remains Fast

Our weather pattern remains pretty fast as we see weather systems about every 3 days or so. For today, we are looking for the clouds to move on out. I think the combination of clouds and a good breeze helped to keep temperatures from falling into the 20s as I was forecasting yesterday. So the sun should make it feel a little better out there and I expect to see highs around 45 or 46, and that is still pretty chilly with our average high for late December sitting at 54.

The next upper trough comes out of the southern Rockies on Friday. As it does we come under a moist but warmer southwesterly flow aloft, so I expect to see the high temperature climb into the lower and mid 50s. But clouds will become prevalent on Friday with rain chances increasing during the afternoon. Expect rain by late afternoon and into the evening and early morning hours of Saturday. Because the system is moving quickly, the rain should end by late morning Saturday as we see another chill down with highs this weekend in the upper 40s.

The next weather system I’m not quite as confident about. The GFS brings moisture back into the area on New Years Day while the ECMWF holds back and is somewhat slower. I’m tending a little toward the GFS since the pattern has remained very fast of late, so the faster solution seems to be the best in my opinion. But this is system two, so we can focus on the timing of that after we get by the rain on Friday and Saturday.

It does look like the 1st or 2nd of January will be cloudy and wet as we start 2013.

Rainfall amounts in system one for tomorrow and Saturday should be around one half to one inch. There is currently only a marginal risk of severe storms along the Louisiana Gulf Coast on Friday.

Voodoo continues to show a fast moving flow pattern with a steady train of storm systems. The GFS shows one around the 6th and another around the 10th, so it looks like the Weather Office is going to remain busy.
