February Rain

| February 24, 2013 @ 11:58 am

The forecast calls for a wet end to February, 2013, so I thought it might be a good time to check the record books to see how we stand across Central Alabama. I sure have heard a lot of people commenting about how much rain we’ve been having. So a quick check of the record books shows the following standings for official observation sites across Central Alabama.

Actual Values

Station.......Rainfall....Standing
Birmingham.....5.08".......40th
Tuscaloosa.....5.31".......19th
Anniston.......5.25".......29th
Montgomery....10.71".......3rd

Projected rainfall for the next couple of days will vary from north to south across Alabama with 3 to 4 inches possible across the southern counties with 1/2 to 1 inch expected across the Tennessee River Valley. If we assume 3 inches at Montgomery and about 2 inches for Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and Anniston, the numbers change a good deal.

Projected Values

Station.......Rainfall....Standing
Birmingham.....7.08".......20th, up 20 places
Tuscaloosa.....7.31".......10th, up 9 places
Anniston.......7.25".......16th, up 13 places
Montgomery....13.71".......1st, up 2 places

All in all, those are pretty wet values, especially Montgomery.

Guess that pretty much explains why I make squishing sounds when I walk across my backyard!
