Sunny Saturday Ahead
**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today due to travel… I will be at Ross Bridge for the 5:00 and 6:00 weather segments**
BAMA QUAKE: First off, we had a magnitude 3.1 earthquake in Southwest Alabama at midday… see the details here. The epicenter was near Coffeeville, on the Tombigbee River north of Mobile. No reports of any damage…. but it was felt in Mobile.
THE ALABAMA WEATHER STORY: Beginning to see some breaks in the overcast, and we are still on target for a beautiful day tomorrow. With a clearing sky tonight, we will drop into the upper 40s by daybreak tomorrow. Then, tomorrow will feature a good supply of sunshine with a high in the mid to upper 70s.
I still think we need to insert the chance of a shower on Sunday with an upper level impulse riding down the back side of the eastern U.S. upper trough, but it won’t be a rainy day, and rain amounts should be light and spotty with very dry air in the low levels. Highs over the weekend will be in the 75 to 79 degree range, which is below average for mid-May.
NEXT WEEK: Still lots of model madness… the 12Z GFS hinting at a chance of showers on Tuesday, and then again at the end of the week Thursday and Friday. Not much confidence due to poor run to run consistency. At first glance, the Memorial Day weekend looks warm and muggy with a chance of scattered showers or storms. Highs up in the 80s.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
I am thankful for the opportunity to speak at the 5th grade graduation today at Greystone Elementary… lots of teary eyed moms, dads, and grandparents there. I am proud of all those kids; they are a special group.
Brian Peters will handle the Weather Xtreme videos over the weekend… my next one will be posted by 7:00 a.m. Monday morning. NO severe weather over the weekend this time! Enjoy…
