Lower Humidity Levels Today
An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…
Be sure and scroll down for some great pictures from our readers… you can see the hail that pelted parts of East Alabama late yesterday, along with some damage shots.
A drier airmass has moved into Alabama this morning; the dewpoint has dropped to 50 at Fort Payne, and that dry air means a beautiful day. Lots of sunshine, lower humidity, and a nice northwest breeze. No significant chance of rain for the northern half of the state today.
TOMORROW AND FRIDAY: The old surface boundary to the south will move northward tonight and tomorrow as a warm front, putting all of Alabama back in a moist airmass. Accordingly, we will bring in the chance of scattered showers and storms on both days with a mix of sun and clouds. The best chance of a shower will come during the afternoon and evening hours during the peak of the daytime heating process. Highs will be in the low to mid 80s.
MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND: An upper ridge will slowly build across Alabama over the holiday weekend. We will hang on to the chance of a shower or storm in spots on Saturday, but it really looks like most of the state will be dry on Sunday and Monday. Afternoon highs will be well up in the 80s.
AT THE BEACH: Lots of folks headed to the Gulf Coast now that school is ending and the Memorial Day weekend is fast approaching. Today will be mostly dry with a high near 80. Then, tomorrow through Sunday each day will feature about 4 to 6 hours of sunshine along with a few scattered showers and thunderstorms. Looks like the best coverage of showers and storms along the coast will be on Friday, but even then it won’t rain all day. The sea water temperature at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab last night was 79 degrees. We note the QPF graphic from HPC shows 4.5 inches at Mobile Bay through Sunday; but I think that is way too aggressive.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
